Emergency Eye Care
Immediate attention for eye injuries, infections, and urgent vision problems
Emergency eye care refers to prompt and specialized treatment for sudden and severe eye injuries or conditions that require immediate
attention to prevent further damage or vision loss. In cases of eye emergencies, it's crucial to seek medical attention from an
optometrist, ophthalmologist or visit an emergency room as soon as possible. When an accident occurs, call our office right away. We
will recommend the next step in terms of your ssituation, whether you can come to see a optometrist or directly go to emergency room.

WHAT TYPES OF EMERGENCIES
We are not able to treat all types of eye emergencies. Most common eye emergencies we can treated are listed below:
• Foreign Object in the Eye: When a foreign object such as dust, debris, or metal particles enters the eye,
it can cause irritation, pain, and potentially damage the cornea or other structures if not promptly removed.
• Eye Infections: Bacterial, viral, or fungal infections of the eye, such as conjunctivitis (pink eye) or
keratitis, can cause redness, swelling, discharge, and discomfort. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are necessary
to prevent the spread of infection and potential complications.
• Corneal Abrasions: Corneal abrasions are scratches or injuries to the cornea, often caused by foreign objects,
contact lenses, or trauma.
• Chemical Burns: Exposure to chemicals like acids or alkalis can cause severe damage to the eyes, leading to pain,
redness, and potential vision loss.
• Retinal Detachment, Flashes, or Floaters

HOW CAN WE DO WITH EYE EMERGENCY
Here's a short list of steps to deal with an eye emergency:
Stay Calm: Remain calm and reassure the person experiencing the eye emergency to prevent panic.
• Do Not Rub the Eye: Advise the person not to rub or touch the affected eye, as this can worsen the injury or condition.
• Assess the Situation: Evaluate the severity of the eye emergency and determine if immediate medical attention is required.
• Flush with Water: If there's a foreign object in the eye or a chemical splash, gently flush the eye with clean water for at least 15 minutes to remove the irritant. Use a clean cup or eyewash station if available.
• Do Not Attempt to Remove Embedded Objects: If there's a foreign object embedded in the eye, do not attempt to remove it. Cover the eye with a protective shield or clean, sterile dressing and seek immediate medical attention.
• Do Not Apply Pressure: Avoid applying pressure to the eye or surrounding area, as this can exacerbate injuries or conditions such as a penetrating eye injury or orbital fracture.
• Protect the Eye: If the eye is injured or there's a risk of further injury, protect the eye by covering it with a clean, sterile dressing or eye shield.
• Seek Medical Attention: If the eye emergency is severe or if the person's vision is affected, seek immediate medical attention from an eye care professional, emergency room, or urgent care center.
• Follow Medical Advice: Follow any instructions or treatment recommendations provided by medical professionals to ensure proper care and management of the eye emergency.
• Prevent Further Injury: Take steps to prevent further injury to the affected eye, such as avoiding activities that could exacerbate the condition and following any restrictions or precautions advised by medical professionals.
Remember, timely intervention and appropriate medical care are crucial in dealing with eye emergencies to minimize potential complications and promote recovery.
